Lee: Brand History
This brand with a rich history continues to be modern and relevant to this day. Lee, one of the largest producers of denim clothing around the world, has been retaining leading positions in the fashion market for more than a hundred years and continues to contribute to Denim's history. An impressive assortment is no longer limited only to cowboy jeans; Today, Lee can find T -shirts, jackets, shirts and accessories.
One hundred and thirty years ago, in 1889, Henry David Lee founded H.D. LEE for the manufacture and sale of various goods.

On his own experience, learning how difficult it is to choose the right clothes for workers, Lee decided to start the production of their own clothes, and not look for it in other markets. Soon, thanks to the thoughtful working clothes of Denim, much superior to the quality of its analogues, Lee became one of the most popular overalls in the United States. In 1911, the company began to produce overalls, complementing the already popular jeans collection with them.
All overalls, starting with a model with a bib, were sewn from denim fabric in 8 ounces, had a multifunctional breast pocket and a butt on buttons.
In 1913, Lee Union All overalls was represented. Noticing how difficult it is to repair the car, remaining clean, Lee developed a jumpsuit, which fully protected the owner’s everyday clothes: a jeans jacket with sleeves was sewn to the overalls with the bib. Sales were a deafening success, overalls with sleeves liked farmers, mechanics and railway workers. Over the next four years, Lee even opened several additional manufacturing enterprises.
Then Lee decided to show a little creativity in the field of advertising and came up with Baddy Lee, the brand talisman and the first character in the history of American advertising. A smiling little man dressed in the LEE overalls appeared in the window of the Dayton department store in Minnesota and eventually became the subject of collecting, bringing a lot of money to the participants of this sphere. Baddy Lee experienced durability jeans in car accidents, explosions and other cruel conditions, invariably leaving all the disasters unharmed and completely whole jeans. In 1999, Baddy Lee again appeared in the Teleraklam of the Lee Dungarees youth line.
In the 20s, Lee already produced Cowboy Pant cowboy pants for sailors, lumberjacks and, of course, cowboys. Initially, they were sewn from heavy denim to 13 ounces, with an U-shaped insert and button, and later were adapted for a zipper, the first one of a kind. LEE was also the first to offer jeans of different sizes for an individual fit on the figure. Both the audience and cowboys were looking forward to each new collection, which only strengthened the authority of Lee as a manufacturer of overalls. The jeans were labeled with the Lee logo printed directly on the cowhide to remind you of the cowboy world, as well as branded S stitching on the back pockets.
In 1944, a rebranding took place, and all cowboy jeans began to be produced under the Lee Rider brand. In 1949, the Lady Lee Riders line entered the market, which was called the best jeans for women. Lee's slogan was Can't Bust Em (They can't be broken).
In 1954, James Dean wore Lee jeans in The Giant and Rebel Without a Cause. This move helped the brand finally transition from the world of workwear to pop culture. The transition was cemented by Lesures' line of comfortable clothing for work and leisure.
In the late 1960s, Lee merged with VF Company, allowing it to modernize production and increase capacity, as well as expand its influence abroad. A decade later, Lee has exported its clothing to more than 80 countries.
With the advent of the 80s, the brand's focus completely shifted from workwear to more trendy and stylish pieces, such as jeans with a distressed or faded effect, and over the following years, Lee continued to move towards fashion.
By 1995, Lee, along with many other American brands, began to move their production to China. This led to a significant increase in popularity in Australia, India, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2012, Lee opened its first flagship store in Hong Kong, building brand awareness.
A tribute to the quality and craftsmanship of the brand's first cowboy jeans, the recently released Lee 101 line features Italian raw denim and Japanese selvedge jeans in 13.25-13.75 ounces.
The look was completed with vintage details like leather logo patches and S stitching on the back pocket. Today, 130 years after Henry David Lee founded his company, the Lee brand continues to hold its place as one of the largest denim brands in the world with a global reach that any company would envy.
